How long?

There are advantages to breastfeeding for even short periods. But to maximize the health, social, emotional, environmental advantages of breastfeeding aim at continuing for as long as you can. The way to ensure you and you baby get the most out of breastfeeding is to exclusively breastfeed for the first six months and continue breastfeeding after that while also giving your baby nourishing solid foods until baby is 2 years old or older.

Exclusive breastfeeding means giving only breast milk with no other foods, milks or fluids -apart from prescribed medicines, minerals or vitamin supplements.

Because everyone benefits from breastfeeding, we should give breastfeeding mothers all the support they need.
