Your question:

How is breastfeeding good for my baby?

Expert’s answer:

There are too many reasons to list them all but here are just some of the proven facts about breastfeeding.

  1. Breastfed babies rarely suffer from constipation as your breastmilk is so easy for them to digest.
  2. Breastfeeding your baby will support the normal gut flora (good bacteria) to flourish this helps protect your baby from nasty gastric bugs that cause diarrhoea and vomiting.
  3. Breastmilk provides protection:
  • from ear infections;
  • from respiratory infections;
  • from developing allergies, asthma and eczema;
  • against kidney infections, and
  • against childhood leukaemia.
  1. Breastmilk reduces:
  • risk of kidney infections;
  • risk of developing childhood leukaemia;
  • risk of high blood pressure in later years; and
  • risk of endocrine and Central Nervous System disorders.

Researchers have shown that breastfed children scored higher on IQ and visual acuity testing than children who were fed formula, so it really is very clever stuff!

Researchers have shown that breastfed children are less likely to become overweight or obese.
