Your question:

I want to start expressing so I can have some time away from baby without having to rush back to feed. When can I start expressing?

Expert’s answer:

Generally it's best to wait for 4-6 weeks before you start to express milk for your baby, this is just allowing your milk supply to regulate perfectly to what your baby needs. Sometimes expressing before this time can lead to a problem with oversupply.

Starting from 4-6 weeks should be fine if you feel your milk is well established now. It is nice to have the occasional break from baby when you need it. Alternatively, you can bring your baby with you when you are out and about, and feed your baby when he or she needs it.
