Your question:

What kind of pain relief can I use during birth?

Expert’s answer:

Talk to your midwife and doctor about the types of pain relief that can be used during birth. Some medications can cause baby to be a little sleepy or drowsy after birth.

Techniques that help with labour pains include:

  • being able to move around,
  • warm water such as a bath or shower, and
  • breathing exercises.

Some Mums prepare by learning relaxation techniques. Having a birth partner to support you through labour can be very helpful. This can be baby’s Dad or a close friend or family member.

If you know you will be giving birth by Caesarean Section, talk to your doctor about  the type of anaesthesia and other medications they plan to use.
